2014 Contractor of the Year Award-Winning Project – Residential Kitchen $80,001 to $120,000
Sometimes the biggest problems present the greatest solutions…
A suburban home in Fairfax Station VA was devastated in a Kitchen fire. The client took this tragic event and used it as a platform to move forward with the kitchen remodel they’ve always dreamed of.
General Concerns…
Building a replica of the former kitchen was not an option for this client. The client has a large family with many adult children, so hosting events and cooking together was always a challenge in the small former galley kitchen. They had considered adding an addition since they knew a larger kitchen footprint was necessary to better meet their needs. A generous island with an abundance of storage was on the list, as-well-as natural lighting, two ovens, and increased counter and storage space. Given the large number of family members, improved traffic flow was of vital consideration. When hosting large family dinners, the new kitchen would require many work stations available to accommodate their cooking needs. A modest desk and computer station also needed to be revamped and redesigned to offer better storage and integrate with the look of the new kitchen.
The Transformation…
As a result of the fire, a steep second stairwell into the basement, that ran alongside the galley kitchen, was exposed. The stairwell was rarely used and offered an opportunity to be removed to open up the kitchen area without extending the footprint of the home.
The Results…The newly remodeled kitchen is a stunning silver lining which resulted from what might otherwise have been considered a horrible tragedy. The entire family is extremely pleased with the final result and since the renovation, have hosted numerous large family dinners and events with great success. The client’s favorite features include the Wolf Steam Convection Wall Oven, the plug molding incorporated throughout and the ease of cooking for multiple family members simultaneously. The elegant millwork seamlessly blends a traditional look with the utility and efficiency of contemporary appliances. The family especially loves the large central island that allows for the whole family to gather and share many delicious and memorable times!
